Bacon, Francis, Viscount St Alban (1561-1626)
Philosopher and statesman who served as Attorney General and Lord Chancellor. Often called the father of empiricism. According to Aubrey, he died of a chill as a result of stuffing a hen with snow to determine whether it would preserve it
